Magway Overview
Magway Region is an administrative division in central Myanmar. It is the second largest of Myanmar's seven divisions, with an area of 44,820 km2 (17,306 square miles). Pa Del Dam is one of the dams in Aunglan Township, Magway Division. The capital and second largest city of the Magway Division is Magway. The largest city is Pakokku. The major cities of Magway Division are Magway, Pakokku, Chauk, Aunglan, Yenangyaung, Taungdwingyi, Minbu, Thayet and Gangaw.
Magway is the capital city of Magway Region (formerly Magway Division) of Myanmar, and situated on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. The Myathalun Pagoda, the beauty of Magway, located at the north of the city, is the landmark of Magway. Magway Region is famous for the cultivation of sesame and many kinds of nuts. It is also the second largest city of Magway Region and it is home to Magway Airport.
This dusty town is rarely visited by tourists, which is evident to those who visit and are often surrounded by curious staff and locals at restaurants.
Magwe’s largest shrine, the Mya ThaLun Pagoda, features a gilded stupa and occupies a hilltop site with great Irrawaddy river views. And across the water you can find Minbu and the Nga KaPweTaung, a bubbling pool of gas and mud surrounded by lunar-like terrain.
The Shwesettaw Pagoda festival is a huge festival that celebrates the visitation of the Buddha to the area, where his footprints are said to have been preserved. The pagoda is located on a picturesque river bend 50km to the west of Magwe and takes place on the fifth waxing moon of the Myanmar calendar, Tabodwe (between February and April).
