| Ponagar Festival opens in Khanh Hoa |
The Goddess Ponagar Festival 2010 opened in Nha Trang city of the central province of Khanh Hoa on May 5 or the 22nd day of the third lunar month, attracting more than 5,000 pilgrims of 100 delegations from surrounding provinces.
According to the province’s relic and landscape management centre, the Goddess Ponagar Festival is the biggest religious festival held from the 21st to 25th day of the third lunar month every year to commemorate the Goddess Thien Y A Na – Holy Mother of the Cham community in the central region.
At the opening ceremony, various traditional dances of Cham people were performed to honour the beauty of the Cham culture.
Earlier, the night of May 3, more than 7,000 flower garlands and coloured lanterns carried on 22 boats were released to the Cai river near the foot of the Ponagar Tower to pray for people and soldiers who laid down for the cause of national construction and defence.

| Responsible Tourism Initiatives introduced in Vietnam |
40 travel agencies and leaders of the Hanoi, Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Tri provincial Departments for Culture, Sports and Tourism attended a seminar on “The introduction of Responsible Tourism Initiatives in Vietnam” in Hue City on May 4.
The seminar, organized by the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), is designed to respond to challenge facing the developing tourism industry.
It is also aimed at providing information on environment management and attracting the participation of poor people in cultural and tourist activities.
A recent SNV survey of five major tourist attractions in Vietnam shows the visitors’ satisfaction at high level, but also their concern about tourist-related problems like garbage dumping in public places, environmental pollution and benefits poor people.

| “Ca Tru” and “Folk songs of Bac Ninh” receive certificates of Intangible Cultural Heritage |
Opera House in Hanoi on April 16, Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to receive certificates of Intangible Cultural Heritage which need urgent protection for “Ca Tru” and certificates of intangible cultural heritage of humanity represented for the folk songs of Bac Ninh.
At the ceremony, Ms. Katherine Muller - Marin, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, said: "Your country is very active in introducing and sharing with the world the most typical characteristics of culture"
