Vinh Long Overview
Situated between the Tien and the Hau rivers, Vinh Long Province is bounded by Tien Giang Province on the north, Dong Thap Province on the north-west, Tra Vinh Province on the south-east, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces on the south, and Can Tho City on the south-west.
Topography
The terrain is quite flat. The complex network of rivers and canals make convenient transportation. The soil is rich in alluvium, favorable for rice and various fruit cultivation.
Climate
Vinh Long is a medium sized town located along the banks of the Mekong River, about midway between My Tho and Can Tho. It has two distinct (dry and rainy) seasons. The dry season lasts from December to April, the rainy season last from May to November. The annual average temperature is 27oC. Trips to Vinh Long Province are suitable all year round.
Tourism
Lush and heavily cultivated with both rice and fruit orchards, the province is crossed with canals and tributaries all flowing into the teeming rivers that form its borders. The narrow canals are often straddles by flimsy-looking wooden bridges made from trunks of coconut palms or bamboo and known as the monkey bridges. Visitors will be delighted by the gardens of An Binh Island and Binh Hoa Phuoc Island, both famous for their succulent fruit. Several fruit orchards are open to the public. Visitors can walk among the trees, relax in hammocks, and try all kinds of delicious tropical fruits. Besides, Vinh Long has many pagodas, communal houses such as Van Thanh Temple, Long Thanh Communal House, Tien Chau pagoda. It tourists are who like to relax in a horticultural haven; Truong An Tourist Area must be an ideal place. It is described as the well-known and the “face of garden ecotourism” in Vinh Long Province. Truong An with charming natural scenery, year-round green orchards, fresh air and beautiful villas, restaurants covers an area of 12ha There is an amusement park with a variety of services such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and water park. Visitors will easily find special dishes of southwest region in villas, hotels and restaurants in the area. Khmer people living in Vinh Long also celebrate their New Year Festival called Chol Chnam Thmay. The purpose of the festival is to see off the hot sunny season and to welcome the rainy period, which is the time to make preparations for the upcoming ten-month long rice season.
Transportation
Vinh Long is 70km from My Tho, 34km from Can Tho and 136km from Ho Chi Minh City. National Highway No.1A and No.53 also runs through the province.
